As part of the Petro-Canada Young Innovator Award, I am running a bike series at McMaster this year, called the McMaster Rolling Seminar: La Vie Vélo. Below are posters for the first two fall events (collectors’ items, every one). Rather than asking our guests to present formal talks, the format will be a conversational interview followed by audience questions. The award is designed to support the integration of undergraduate students into my research (on the bicycle in environmental history), and I hope to use the speakers’ series to engage a broader swath of the student body on questions relating to bikes in historical and contemporary settings. Given my passing interest in the history of the future, I’m sure we’ll talk about bicycles in future urban planning scenarios, too. In spite of the emphasis on undergraduate training, the series is open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend.
